Community Garden

Our Community Gardens program provides space to grow healthy food. Gardeners from diverse backgrounds learn from each other and build connections. Efforts are focused in east Portland and Gresham working with nonprofit, private and municipal landowners.

Our first garden is located at 24375 SE Stark – Gresham, OR 97030 (see map to right).

How it works

  • Individuals and families work assigned small plots (15’x 15’ or 15’ x 30’)
  • Participants sign user agreements and pay annual plot fees
  • Limited-income participants pay a reduced fee; sponsors help offsets this discount
  • Plot fees, business sponsorships, general donations and grants fund the program
  • A volunteer site coordinator assists paid staff to manage the gardens
  • The organization’s liability insurance policy covers landowners as additionally insured
  • Participants are recruited from diverse communities

Over 2,000 people are on the waiting list for community garden plots in City of Portland program. We are responding to this incredible demand by building and managing community gardens on the grassroots level.
